Benefits
This course will provide at an advanced level a theoretical base for SMATV & IRS systems installers, including all the latest information on digital terrestrial & satellite broadcasting and reception. The course is designed for installers who have experience and practical skills and who wish to improve or enhance their knowledge of SMATV & IRS systems.

Learning style
The course provides theoretical underpinning knowledge by classroom based and distance learning techniques. All students are required to attend an induction day at the beginning of the course. During this day students will be told what to expect during the course and what is expected of them.
A large proportion of the day will be used to revise the mathematics involved in the course. Students will also take away all the course material, including notes on the induction day and a maths revision book.
The distance learning aspect comprises of 10 paper based training modules with an associated tutor marked assignment (TMA). There are cut off dates for submission of the assignments, which are strictly adhered too. At the end of the course the student attends a two-day practical assessment before sitting the final two-paper exam. Paper 1 is a multiple-choice paper similar to the self-assessment questions (SAQ) in the units and paper 2 is a written short answer paper similar to TMAs. In order to sit the exam both TMAs and practical assessments need to be passed.

Who should attend?
The course is designed for installers who have experience and practical skills and who wish to improve or enhance their knowledge of SMATV & IRS networks. We must stress that this course is not suitable for absolute beginners. Ideal prior courses would be the CAI Basic Radio & TV Aerial Installation Techniques and the Basic Satellite Installation Techniques or relevant City & Guilds electrical or electronics courses.
