Virgin Media Expands Broadband Availability Across Ireland

Virgin Media says its broadband, mobile and entertainment services are now available to more homes and businesses across Ireland than any other provider, following continued investment in its network. The company says its superfast broadband is now available nationwide.

The expansion follows more than €1 billion of investment in Ireland since 2007, with Virgin Media continuing to upgrade and extend its network. The company is also working towards making 10Gbps-capable services available to more than one million homes and businesses.

Virgin Media has been upgrading its existing network to fibre as part of a wider programme. In Q1 2026, the company reported that its fibre network had reached around 620,000 premises, with the rollout on track to be substantially completed by the end of the year.

The operator says the expanded network is designed to support a growing range of activities including streaming, gaming, working from home and online learning. Its broadband network also supports Virgin Media's wider television and entertainment services.

Virgin Media's latest figures indicate that its gigabit-capable network now reaches 91.9% of Irish households, when both fibre and cable infrastructure are included.

The expansion highlights the continued investment in Ireland's broadband infrastructure as operators extend fibre and gigabit-capable networks and compete to increase access to higher-speed connectivity.
