The UK Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee is due to question Ofcom’s senior leadership on broadcasting regulation, online safety and the impact of artificial intelligence during an evidence session on 20 October 2026. Ofcom Chair Sir Ian Cheshire and Chief Executive Dame Melanie Dawes will appear before MPs to discuss the regulator’s work.
A key focus will be Ofcom’s implementation and enforcement of the Online Safety Act, including whether the regulatory framework can keep pace with the development of AI and other emerging technologies. MPs may also ask about the regulator’s preparations for the Government’s proposed social media ban for under-16s.
Broadcasting standards are also expected to feature prominently, particularly Ofcom’s approach to enforcing impartiality requirements and maintaining public confidence in television and radio. The committee may examine how the regulator responds to concerns about broadcast content and ensures broadcasters meet their obligations.
