The Digital TV Group (DTG) has released D-Book 12.12, the latest edition of its technical specification for UK digital television receivers. The update aims to support interoperability, accessibility and reliability as the industry prepares for a potential transition towards internet-delivered television.
The new edition addresses the technical challenges of delivering television across multiple networks, platforms and connected devices, highlighting the importance of consistent performance throughout the delivery chain.
Updates include revised receiver control guidance following an Ofcom-commissioned usability study into barriers experienced by older viewers using internet-delivered television. It also introduces guidance for wireless audio technologies, including Bluetooth Low Energy and Auracast, clarifies audio description requirements and aligns with HbbTV specification version 1.8.1.
The DTG says collaboration between broadcasters, manufacturers, platforms, internet service providers and network operators will be essential to ensuring television remains reliable and accessible as distribution methods evolve.
D-Book 12.12 reinforces the importance of common technical standards as the UK television industry prepares for its next phase of development.
